Being a passionate amateur I love finding new ways and opportunities to see what photography can do, exploring photographic images and investigating how and why they speak to me. The ones I find most fascinating usually bring me back to very simple but unforgettable impressions from early childhood on.

I’m still haunted by the memory of a shabby street in a derelict neighborhood in Amsterdam being transformed by the evening sun into the place where I want to live forever. I did indeed manage to live there for 26 years and at times this little street would still evoke the magic of its first impression.

I happen to be the kind of fool who intuitively goes by his first impression, and I can’t say I’ve had much reason to regret it. My use of intuition didn’t always quite work out, but it’s still the only way to travel in unknown territory, which any creative process basically is.

This web site provides a platform to share my photos with you full screen, not without bugging you, once in a while, with my impertinent thoughts.

Technical Note

This is now a WordPress photoblog. It started as a Slideshow Pro Flash-only site to show nothing but pictures in their full glory. I didn’t want a lot of words drowning out the pictures and barely allowing them a tiny space on the screen. Then I discovered that the two can be nicely combined in a WordPress installation with the Slidepress plugin. This nifty software will run the show in Flash on a desktop computer and automatically fall back on HTML5 when a mobile device is used. Another plugin, Shadowbox JS, makes it possible to use the Lightbox technique of presenting images full-screen without leaving the blog page.
